Jesus isn’t just for Christmas

Christmas isn't over
It is in us all year round
Epiphany still to come
Along with a new year

2020 will go down in history
Described by just one word
2021 can still bring more
But hope is what we aim for

Our hope is the baby
Whose birth we are still celebrating
A child that grows to an innocent man
Mis-convicted for our sin

This murdered man named Jesus
Didn't stay dead long
He rose again from his fight
Resurrection, bringing new life

Jesus doesn't leave us
Through his spirit he is with us
Wiping tears, holding us tight
In the dark times shining light

Whatever 2021 holds
One thing remains the same
Jesus our rock, our anchor
Today, tomorrow forever, whatever the day

Tier 4 to Adore

Day 23 #wonderfulladvent and the word is adore

Not going to lie. I didn’t think I was going to be able to write anything today. My mind was under attack. Then my spirit when I heard that where I live in the UK we will be going into tier 4 Boxing day. Although not unexpected.

In this moment of darkness I was wondering how I can possibly write anything about adore without sounding half hearted, niche or preachy. But does it matter if I do?

Isn’t the point of Jesus to adore, love and trust him in all the surrounding darkness as well as the joyful times. To ask Jesus to remove the darkness.

When I am struggling I tend to listen to worship music as I find it the most uplifting thing when I sing along or let it sink in.

Adore

Jesus the night you were born
The angles flew down from heaven
To shepherds below
Singing adoration to you
In the brightness of sight
Go worship the king they said
Not in a palace
With a crown on his head
But in a stable
A child just like you
Making himself human
To understand as we do
To have a closeness
Knowing all we go through
So worship and adore the baby at Christmas time
Beyond into the new year
And never let go
For as we adore Jesus
He seeps into our bones
Bringing joy peace and miracles all the year round.

Cancelled sin not canelled 2020

This week’s  Five minute Friday prompt word is Cancel. You can join in the fun here: https://fiveminutefriday.com  As a writing community we write for 5 minutes(ish) no perfection or edits, the words just flow. #fiveminuteFriday

Walking in the muddy puddles of life
At times is most appealing
Splashing in the dirt and grime
Spreading my sin around

In the darkness
Of that cold word
Just one more drink
I'm not forgiving them
Why would I do that

But the day the rainclouds of heaven opened up
And Jesus entered in
He melted a heart so cold
And asks you child why the frown

My cross has set you free
I cancelled your every sin
Every word of hate
Act of disobedience has been washed away

So let my Holy Spirit in today
And cancel all the dark clouds
That are holding on to you
Let sunshine enter so you will shine
And never look behind.

Not my best but hey it’s Friday and 5 minutes! God cancelled every sin when we accepted Jesus as king. What more can a girl want!

Lockdown part 2!

As England decides to catch up with the rest of the UK. A prospect of lockdown in dark autumn to winter nights seems gloomy.

Concern for nurses and carers. Only able to see parents from a distance. Unemployment at an all time low. We need hope to breakthrough.

It’s time to start thinking outside the box. Showing love and compassion creatively. To stop thinking about problems in a worldly way, but in a supernatural way.

Leave the science to the scientists. Let’s tackle what we can. Showing love to neighbours. Buying extra food for foodbanks if we are able to. Having a clear out, will things we no longer use be a help to others?

We can still plan Christmas, just not in the same way. Write and post cards to let others people know you are thinking of them. Reflect what Christmas means to you. Open your heart to a baby boy and see what emotions arise.

We are created imaginatively, by a creative God. Let God show us ways to support each other in new imaginative ways. Let us stand firm on our rock, unshakable in Christ

I don’t get Halloween!

Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,

Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

William M Runyan – Great is thy faithfulness
This Halloween
In the middle of a pandemic
Why would you want it to be
About death, zombies and fear

Scaring one another may be your thing
But showing love and kindness
Is surely a happier thing

So this year my Halloween
Will be filled with colour
Rainbows, lights and promises
Hope for the now and the future

Family time within the rule of 6
With cake, strictly and sport is bliss
No hiding in dark shadows
Just being us on an autumnal night

Why celebrate death in such a despairing way
For to me death is eternity in heaven
Singing, dancing, praising
With Jesus forever

Nation be still

I don’t know if it’s because I live on a island, or because of how I perceive my nation in my heart but this first part of Isaiah really jumped out at me this morning.

The island that I live on
Needs time to be still
For the majority of people are  distracted by the lie
"It's all about money and me, me,me"

Make time for God he is not a myth
Stop making life too busy even in whatever this is.
Lets stop stumbling in the dark
Fingers crossed
This plan works

Let this pandemic make us think
About being still
Looking for more
For light to break through and show the way.

The government and their latest ploy
From five to three
With six inbetween
Numbers and statistics everywhere
It's time to get personal
Reflect and care

In the newsflash of doom and gloom
There is a group of people
On its knees
Praying for healing
Hope and eyes to be opened
Wanting the nation to completely be still

The pandemic these people want to cure
Is hearts that have turned cold and heads that are hard
Revival is needed in this land
To see miracles flowing
Hope floating
Hearts dancing

It is time for this nation
To refresh it's dry bones
To come alive
Open it's eyes
To look beyond the lie
Get on its knees and be still
To give our hearts back to God and turn tears into dancing.

A prayer for when our plans go skew-wiff.

2020 is far from what anyone planned. The rest of the year may not be what we hoped for either, but it has to be what we make it. The attitude and end result will be up to us.

If we can watch the COVID statistics and know a loved one is not there we are blessed. If loved ones who are suffering from other illness are still getting treatment we are thankful. If we have a job, roof over our head and food on the table we are rich.

Dear Jesus,
Our plans for 2020 may not be what we wanted or hoped for.
Some moments have been a little scary.
But as our rock Jesus we stand on you.
We trust the the plans you have for us are for our future.
You are our hope, our peace our joy.
Please bring comfort to the hurting,
Healing to the sick,
Shelter to the homeless,
Food and provision to the hungry.
Remind us that these times of a pandemic are only temporary,
Let us use the time to love and care for each other,
Just as you taught us.
We are not alone, your Holy Spirit is with us,
Protect the mental health of our nation as much as our physical health.
Let us realise these ruined plans of ours,
Are nothing compared to the blessings you have for us in the future.
So help us make the rest of 2020 joyful in our hearts even if it isn't the way we want it to be.
Amen.

Don’t let autumn steal your joy.

Whatever normal is, it still isn’t here. Stuck in a pandemic with a new season approaching. COVID has made the year go fast and it won’t stop the year changing seasons. So for people like me who love summer and can feel it slipping away here is a poem to help us cling to joy.

It's only late summer,
August not quite ended.
So why am I letting it bother me so?
Stealing my joy with autumn pending.

The nights are getting longer,
The daylight hours shorter.
Counting down to the shortest day,
Instead of making the most of the sun,
And all the fun it brings.

Leaves are turning golden brown,
And falling all around.
The summer heat fading fast,
Faithful when in need.

There is no reason I should feel this way,
Doom and depression,
try seeping into cracks.

Seasons come and seasons go,
But my God remains the same.
So faithful,providing joy,
My strength,my hope,my all.

Whatever the season,
Jesus fill me with your joy.
Let the dark fade to dust,
And light shine all around.

Let the reds, golds and browns of autumn leaves sparkle,
Let them crack and snap as we snuggle and jump on them.

May the crisp air bring the stars,
Lights leading us home,
As we countdown to Christmas,
Celebrating your birth.

Summer,autumn,spring And winter,
Jesus your our only king,
With us every day, helping us find the way,
And providing limitless joy.

Progressing by nurtured love from above.

Today’s Five minute Friday prompt word is progress You can join in the fun here: https://fiveminutefriday.com

So I saw the word progress pop up and thought “Nah too difficult, to hot think I will leave it”

I then decided to sit in the garden and for lunch and looking at some flowers it made me think about progress.

The flowers in the photo above were brought and picked out by my husband in a garden clearance section for £2. I was obviously very ashamed of these flowers and didn’t think they would last or were worth taking a photo off at the beginning.

The flowers when brought were barely alive. They had one bloom falling off and the leaves were brown and wilted for days. I am now fascinated how they are flourishing and progressing in their blooming. Every time I thought they had fully bloomed they hadn’t.

My plant has progressed through belief from my husband they they were worth saving. Through planting in great compost and nurturing they are reaching their potential.

Remind you of anything?

Dear Jesus
I thank you that you love me so much I am worth saving.
I thank you that you nurture me and help me achieve all I was created for.
Thank you that you never give up on me.
You provide my every need.
I blossom and bloom not just once but day after day with your attendance.
Help me to continue to grow in you.
Help me to reach others that feel they are not worth saving realise how loved they are by you,
And let them blossom and bloom into a the creation they were born for.
Amen

For we walk by faith and not by sight.

2 Corinthians 5:7

Your still my God

Your still my God,
You never change.
You bring me peace in the chaos,
Your strength is my joy.
You wipe my every tear.

You are my God,
Anytime of the day,
Day and night you never leave.

You love me so much,
You sent your Son,
To take my place
And fight my battles.

I am not alone your Spirit guides me,
In the pain, in the fun your always with me.

You love is limitless,
Your patience abounding.
Sharing all my ups and downs.

The world may feel like it's losing control,
But in my life your always be in control,
You are still my God and will always be.
